Join us for an adventure that is all things Alexander Gorlizki in honor of his newly opened exhibition Alexander Gorlizki: Variable Dimensions. Playing off of his colorful abstractions and amalgamations, create your own tessellating wallpaper and ink blown tiles and contribute to a large-scale community sketchbook.

  • ART ACTIVITY: TILES GALORE
10 AM–2 PM | Arbor Walk, 2nd floorAlexander Gorlizki: Variable Dimensions brings together the artist’s work in drawing, sculpture, installation, video, and the applied arts—carpets, wallpapers, textiles—for a rich kaleidoscopic experience of the artist’s profoundly creative imagination. Notans, a Japanese term for “light and dark,” explore the use of positive and negative space with only two pieces of paper. A visual display of principles of art such as unity, contrast and balance, notans celebrate the arrangement of space and color: two elements highly emphasized in the work of Alexander Gorlizki. Drawing inspiration from Alexander Gorlizki and Japanese notans create shapes of your own and watch them transform into a unique, harmonious design.
  • ART ACTIVITY: WATCH GALORE
10 AM–2 PM | Arbor Walk, 2nd floorTake home a piece of Alexander Gorlizki: Variable Dimensions. Craft your own watch inspired by the exhibition and get a chance to win your very own limited edition Alexander Gorlizki Swatch. #playwinwatch
  • ART ACTIVITY: MIRROR GALORE
10 AM–2 PM | Arbor Walk, 2nd floorAlexander Gorlizki has worked with embroiderers, spectacle makers, forgers and fakers, cobblers, knitters, tailors, watchmakers, stone masons, manicurists, designers, musicians and film-makers. Within the exhibition, you will find art in the form of embroidered handkerchiefs, plant-like hand-mirrors alongside exquisitely crafted paintings with obsessive floral and geometric patterns. Try your hand at sculpting a free form hand mirror to take home to help you reflect upon your time at the Crow.
  • COMMUNITY ACTIVITY: THE DRAWING WALL
10 AM–2 PM | Skybridge, 2nd FloorAlexander Gorlizki refers to his artwork as drawings and believes that “there is no such thing as good or bad drawing.” In the spirit of
Alexander Gorlizki, we invite you to do just that, draw.
