Wellness | Breathe: Veterans’ Artist Residency with Longhui Zhangat Crow Collection of Asian Art
The Crow Collection’s free Breathe: Veterans Artist Residency Program gives twelve local veterans the opportunity to work with interdisciplinary visual artist Longhui Zhang at the museum over the course of two days (July 8 & July 9).
Chinese artist, Longhui Zhang has been trained in painting, drawing, multimedia animation, and web design, and creates works in the diverse media of painting, sculpture, installation, performance and video art. Zhang’s work explores personal and cultural identity and has been exhibited in Beijing, Shanghai, Fujian, Denton, Dallas and Fort Worth. To learn more about the artist, visit his website.
Through the program, veterans will explore works of art on view at the museum, learn about traditional Chinese ink and landscape paintings, and create an ink painting with a contemporary twist that will be on view in August at the Crow Collection. Breathe will also partner with Simply Aware to provide Qigong instruction during these workshops. Both the practice of Chinese ink painting and Qigong create opportunities for participants to examine and realign energies in their lives. To celebrate their participation, veterans who attend the workshops will receive a custom Challenge Coin at the closing reception of the program on Saturday, August 26th.
The program takes place at the Crow Collection of Asian Art, located at 2010 Flora Street, Dallas, TX 75201. The museum will validate parking for participants that park in the Trammell Crow Center parking garage. Parking information can be found here. Lunch will be provided for all participants.
