AdventureAsia: Family Days at the Crow Year of the Snake Preview Party Saturday, February 2 | 10AM – 2PM | Free Slither into the Year of the Snake with your family and friends! Feed the dancing lion a red envelope, create a lantern to light up the night, have your face painted to look like an animal of the Chinese Zodiac, sip green tea and listen to traditional Chinese music.
Kids Club Member Only Event Saturday, February 2 | 9AM – 11AM The Crow Collection of Asian Art invites you and your family to a special Kids Club celebration of the Year of the Snake! Ring in the New Year with this exclusive before-hours event for Kids Club members with art and fun for everyone! Kids Club is an exciting benefit of membership at the Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Arboretum, Dallas Zoo, Perot Museum of Nature & Science, and Trinity River Audubon Center. Decorate Red Envelopes 10AM – 2 PM | Flora Street Decorate traditional Chinese New Year envelopes. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits. Give the envelope to those you wish happiness and luck to in the Year of the Snake.
Kid’s Chinese Calligraphy 10AM – 2PM | Flora Street Learn how to write variations of the word “snake” in traditional Chinese calligraphy.
Figuring out Fireworks Presented by the Perot Museum of Nature & Science 11AM -1 PM | Trammell Crow Center Plaza Balcony The burning of firecrackers signifies a joyful time of year and has become an integral aspect of Chinese New Year celebrations. But have you ever wondered how fireworks get their distinctive colors? Come explore the science of fireworks and learn how chemistry and physics work together to explain how fireworks get their brilliant colors.
Family Meditation with the Kadampa Meditation Center Texas 10:30 – 11AM | Jade Room Families can learn meditations to relax body and mind, achieve inner peace, and develop a kind and patient attitude towards others. All levels of experience welcome.
Family Yoga with Yogiños: Yoga for Youth® 11 – 11:45AM | Grand Gallery Learn about the eight limbs of yoga in this fun and energy packed family yoga class. Yogiños: Yoga for Youth® is an OHMazing™ trilingual, interdisciplinary yoga for kids program teaching strength, flexibility, balance, respect and awareness of self, others and the environment both on and off the yoga mat!
Chinese New Year Storytelling 11:30 AM & 12:30 PM | Link Asia Gallery Join us for a special reading of The Year of the Snake: Tales from the Chinese Zodiac by Oliver Chin.
Face Painting for Children Noon – 2 PM | Trammell Crow Center Plaza Balcony Have your face painted by the artists of Your Enchanted Face. Face painting will be offered on a first come first served basis.
Family Writing Workshop Noon – 1pm | Jade Room Join instructors from the Writer’s Garret for a family writing workshop.
Lion Dance 12:30 PM | Flora Street in front of the Fountain The Lion Dance embraces the beauty, art, culture, traditions, and history of China. Watch performers from the J.K. Wong Kung fu Tai Chi Academy as they present this traditional dance. Don’t forget your red envelope to feed the lion for good luck all year long.
Tour of the Collection 1 PM | Meet in the Front Lobby Join Crow Collection docents for enlightened conversations in the galleries and take a tour of the different works of art found in the museum.
Origami with the Keiki Club 1 PM | Jade Room Join Isabelle, Katherine and other members of the Keiki Club and learn the techniques of folding paper and creating origami ornaments. These talented elementary-aged girls use proceeds from their creations to raise funds for Living Water International (water.cc), a Houston-based charity that drills water wells in developing countries.
