The Docent Program:
The Crow Collection of Asian Art offers dedicated life-long learners
imbued with a love of museums the opportunity to delve into the study and teaching of the arts
of Japan, China, India and Southeast Asia. Docents, through an exciting process of
developing communication skills and sharing knowledge of the collection, are responsible for speaking
in the galleries to audiences of all ages.
The General Docent Program is accepting applications for the upcoming academic year, which will run from September 2008 to May 2009. Docent Training is generally held on select Mondays from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and Tuesdays from 6:30 PM–8:00 PM. The expected time commitment is approximately 6–10 hours per month. Training topics will include contextual information on the historical relevance of the objects as well as innovative teaching methods for developing engaging and interactive tours.
The General Volunteer Programs:
For those individuals with a spirit for volunteering whose interests lie in areas other than the docent programs, the Crow Collection of Asian Art provides hands-on experiences in the following areas:
Special Events Volunteers: setting-up and assisting with public lectures, performances and festivals, and family days.
Administrative Volunteers: assisting with the mailing lists, clerical duties, public relations and membership.
