Mylan Nguyen is a Dallas native of Vietnamese and Mexican descent.mylan nguyen silk painting

She studied Illustration in Los Angeles at the Otis College of Art and Design and ceramics in Japan and creates gallery and installation work in her own unique illustration style.

On May 21st, the Crow Collection’s Education Department offered a workshop with Mylan to the public.  Participants completed a small color wheel, practiced brushstrokes, and salt techniques to create a unique piece on silk.

Coming up on Saturday, June 3, Mylan will be holding a teens-only workshop at the Crow Collection.  Teens, ages 13-18, will also complete a small color wheel, practice brushstrokes, and salt techniques to create a unique piece on silk. They will get a chance to dream up and draw their own characters on silk with the loose theme of “imaginary image002friendship”.  Then, participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions around narrative, personal illustration style, and what it means to create a voice that is unique to the characters that come from one’s own world.  Spots are still available, reserve your spot now!

Pieces from these workshops will be used by the artist to create a sculptural, interactive installation that will be displayed alongside participant work in a community exhibition. Stay tuned for details!
