Tibetan Book Covers: An Unexplored Area of Art with Dr. Kathryn Selig Brownat Crow Collection of Asian Art • Free Friends of the Crow Collection, $10 Public
Dr. Kathryn Selig Brown will introduce Tibetan Buddhist book covers, works of handheld relief sculpture that are commonly decorated on all sides and glittering with gold. Arguably the most ornate in Asia, they have remained hidden in plain sight, until now. She will discuss the meaning of their decoration and set them in context using rare inscriptions that provide a wealth of information, including one of the few dates ever found on a book cover.
