The Crow Collection’s Sculpture Garden kicks off in full force with a street festival including activities, food trucks, guided tours of the Sculpture Garden, and entertainment galore! With performances every hour, the streets shut down to make way for a Dragon Dance with JK Wong Kung Fu Tai Chi Academy, live music, and traditional Asian dance performances. Get the first look at what has been six years in the making. Share your experiences! #AdventureAsia

 

Schedule of Events:

Art Activities in the Garden
10 AM – 4 PM ǀ Sculpture Garden
Join Crow Collection educators as they help you create art activities that represent China, Japan, India, Korea, and Indonesia. Supplies limited.

Face Painting for Children
10 AM – 4 PM ǀ Flora Street
Have your face painted by the artists of Your Enchanted Face. Face painting will be offered on a first come first served basis.

Family Photo Booth
10 AM – 4 PM ǀ Flora Street
Strike a pose with your friends and family in this fun photo booth! Take the photo with you to re your day at the Garden Party and Street Festival. First come, first served.

Origami with the Keiki Club
10 AM – 4PM ǀ Flora Street
Join Isabelle, Katherine and other s of the Keiki Club and learn the techniques of folding paper and creating origami ornaments. These talented elementary-aged girls use proceeds from their creations to raise funds for Living Water International (water.cc), a Houston-based charity that drills water wells in developing countries.

Family Meditation with the Kadampa Meditation Center Texas
10:30 – 11AM ǀ Grand Gallery, 2nd Floor
Families can learn meditations to relax body and mind, achieve inner peace, and develop a kind and patient attitude towards others. All levels of experience welcome.

Tours of the Garden
11 AM, 1 PM, & 3 PM ǀ Meet in front of the Crow Collection Fountain
Join master Japanese gardener, John Powell and a Crow Collection of Asian Art docent for an insightful look at the garden’s masterworks including contemporary sculpture from Liu Yonggang, Wang Shugang and Qin Feng.

Family Writing Workshop
Noon – 1pm ǀ Jade Room, 2nd Floor
Join instructors from the Writer’s Garret for a family writing workshop.

Young Dragons: Move Like a Ninja
Noon – 1 PM ǀ Sculpture Garden
Experience ninja games and activities that teach kids and adults how to think and move like a real ninja. Participate in safe and engaging introductory lessons on shuriken (throwing stars), katana (sword), bully proofing, and ninja balance.

Art Activities with Studio Bella
12 – 2 PM ǀ Sculpture Garden
Join Studio Bella as they walk you through activities that focus on the various works of art featured in the Sculpture Garden. Supplies limited.

EnLIGHTen yourself at the Crow Collection as you light up your night at Aurora 2013. Learn about different traditions that light up the night all across Asia, and create your own lantern and candleholders to take home with you. Have your photo taken with Buddha, which means “enlightened one,” a show-stopping 18-foot-tall red sculpture newly installed on Flora Street as part of the Crow Collection Sculpture Garden. Then, venture out into the nation’s largest Arts District to take in Aurora, a free contemporary art event that presents interactive new media artworks for one evening only. The traditions of this holiday come to life with the opportunity to try your hand at rangoli sand painting, or put your dance skills to the test with traditional Indian dance lessons.

Kids Club is a partnership among the Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Zoo, Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and the Trinity River Audubon Center. By joining Kids Club, your family receives special benefits from all five organizations. To sign up, become a Friend of the Crow Collection at the Pearl level or higher today.
