Admonition in the Garden: Chinese Scholar-Artists in Retreat
Karin Oen, PhD
In China, scholar-artists have a complex relationship with nature, which served both as inspiration and as a refuge for retreat from an unfriendly political climate. This talk investigates the intersections of art, landscape, and critical dissent in the work of artists from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
These lectures, part of a continuing series, introduce the permanent collection and selected exhibitions on view at the Kimbell Art Museum and provide background on the traditions underlying the major schools of art. The talk is free, no reservations, but seating is limited.
