ARTIST: Sato Shintaro
Photographer Sato Shintaro (b. 1969 in Japan) captures Tokyo cityscapes – typically under cover of darkness yet illuminated by all of the electric lights and bustle of a large city. He started out as a staff photographer for a news outlet, but began freelancing and has since had his works shown in exhibitions and at photo galleries. Whereas a city dweller might stroll right past such a scene without hesitation, Sato’s works encourage the viewer to examine a complex snapshot of crowded and overlapping shapes and colors, and call to mind the sounds of cities across the world. Kabuki-Cho, Shinjuku-Ku, Tokyo is an example of this that resides in the Crow Museum permanent collection.
