ARTIST: B. Sharav

B. Sharav (Balduugiin “Marzan” Sharav) is a Mongolian painter. Though he died in 1939, his work is said to have “[introduced] modern painting styles to Mongolia.” (wikipedia.org)

Ironically, his most famous painting reflects a much more traditional style – Mongol zurag, mineral-paint-on-cotton medium – and highlights the everyday activities of common Mongolian people. This is a departure from the typical depictions of Buddha and Buddhism, and is a fine way to acknowledge the Mongol holiday of Family Day, May 15th.
